What Does “GBP Loop Framework Explained | James Dooley Interviews Mike Martin, Peter Jones & Paul Truscott” Talk About?

This episode of the Fatrank Podcast centers on the GBP Loop framework, a strategy for boosting Google Business Profile visibility across AI Overviews, ChatGPT mentions, and Google Maps rankings. Host James Dooley interviews Mike Martin, Peter Jones, and Paul Truscott to break down the four core steps of the framework: Profile Completeness and Mirroring, Pictures/Media, Posts, and Praise, all multiplied by the modifier of Consistency. Mike explains how skipping any of these steps means missing ranking factors, referencing Kyle Roof's idea that the absence of a ranking factor is itself important.

“So it's Profile Completeness, Posts, Pictures, Praise, times Consistency. And you keep going back each month to the beginning, making sure your profile is complete, making sure everything's mirrored across the web.”

— Mike

GBP Loop Framework Explained | James Dooley Interviews Mike Martin, Peter Jones & Paul Truscott is available on:

James Dooley: The GBP Loop framework. Nearly got that wrong then. So with regards to Google Business Profiles and you're looking to increase visibility in AI, which could be AI Overviews or ChatGPT or also in Google Maps, there's a new concept called the GBP Loop. So Mike, to throw you in the deep end, what is the GBP Loop framework?

Mike: So there's four main steps to the GBP Loop framework. There isn't on the new book. There is on the original. Uh, so the GBP Loop framework is Profile Completeness and Mirroring. And if I explain what that is, basically completing your profile in full. Google asks you... I think you mentioned it to us the other day about something Kyle Roof said where, where it's the absence of a ranking factor that's really important. If you don't complete your profile in full, you, you're missing ranking factors for your Google Business Profile. And then for Mirroring means it matches your website and it matches your citations across the, across the web. Then there is just literally, we call it Pictures because it's, it's one of the four Ps, but Pictures slash Media. So it's Pictures, works out your media, and that's consistently putting, keeping a fresh face on the business. And then you've got your, um, Posts. Post is a way of building relationships. It's a way of providing information and it's a way of basically converting a prospect into a customer. And then the final step in the GBP Loop... In fact, it's not the final step, but it's, it's Praise, which is, is basically getting reviews and review responses, which, which really, really help, as, as we know, in the AI with your rankings with certain areas. And then we times it all. The modifier is Consistency. And that's why we call it a loop. So it's Profile Completeness, Posts, Pictures, Praise, times Consistency. And you keep going back each month to the beginning, making sure your profile is complete, making sure everything's mirrored across the web. Then it's Pictures, Posts and Praise. And then back around to the beginning. And you keep doing that every single month on a client. And if we keep the loop going and we keep the flow going, you're going to win 99.999% of the time against everybody else in Google Business Profile. Apart from that 0.01% when you're up against me, when you're up against...

James Dooley: [Laughter] So Peter, with regards to the GBP Loop framework, obviously we've been... We've gone and launched a brand called Mapimal, which is a done-for-you service. And obviously we've been listening to Mike Martin, who has gone all in on GBPly. It's an amazing tool. Can you talk a little bit about kind of having this consistency and recency being put onto these Google Business Profiles and how good it's been for our optimisation?

Peter: Yeah, sure. So, keeping on top of everything coming in, staying on top of posting, um, consistency of reviews, um, and our research has shown us that consistency of reviews is a key factor across, uh, the GBPs that are ranking and being mentioned in AI Overviews. Um, so yeah, the data there supports everything that Mike at GBPly and the processes there they've created. Um, yeah, it's all supported and works.

James Dooley: It certainly does. And Paul, the absolute dinosaur when it comes to... Also known as the king of Google Maps. Um, you've done Google Maps for a long time. Obviously over the years you've done a lot of black hat techniques with regards to mass driving directions. And it's crazy now how since Google My Business days to now Google Business Profile, where it is more like social media and being consistently updating things. Can you talk about the transition from yourself and being almost like, I would say, black hat techniques to now consistently looking to get them pictures, get them photos, get the Praise, respond, get the Profile Completeness and everything else and having this GBP Loop in place? Can you transition and go through why it's important now for Google Business Profiles?

Paul: Yeah, 100%. So I, I learned through bitter experience essentially. Google has, has learned. Their technology now has moved on enormously with machine learning and the things that we used to do simply don't work anymore. It's, it's that simple. So you have to adopt a different approach, but it's a better approach. Mike's approach to doing this is actually consistent, repeatable, and you get results. So, at the end of the day, what we always used to do was somewhat, uh, consistent, but not to the degree that this is. So, if you do all of the things that Google are looking for, and you're working with them rather than fighting them, which we did, we were always kind of fighting Google. Work with Google. Just understand what it is that they want. Work with them. Give them what they want and you're going to get rewarded for it.

James Dooley: Yeah, for sure. And then for me, just to kind of summarise the GBP Loop framework, Mike has done all the heavy lifting. He's gone and created GBPly, which is an amazing Google Business Profile agency management kind of suite that makes it simple for clients to be able to upload the photos and be able to do these daily posts and do these daily photos. Obviously, we've come in at the 11th hour. We've created a done-for-you service with Mapimal because some business owners don't want to spend the time in doing it. We've got people like Paul that's able to do more off-page signals with regards to citations and NAP listings. But the big bit which I absolutely love, and for anyone make sure you check out the link in the description where we've got a GBP Loop framework book review. We've gone and done something that's called temporal semantic updating. And what that is is Mike had a book and he wrote a book about the four Ps and then threw in an M, which is Mirroring. So, what we've changed it now is exactly that. We've changed it now to the five Ps. We've kept it simple. We've kept them all five Ps and we've gone the Profile, making certain it's complete, making certain that every last little bit of information on the profile is filled in. To Propagate, having that propagation offsite, mirroring and echoing what you're saying on your profile. Excuse the M. So, that's the other P. So, it's mirroring and echoing. It's called propagation offsite. You're repeating that NAP listing. You've then got the daily Posts that's going out, keeping that consistency being done and having recent updates. You've got the Pictures or the photos, which is the next P. Having any case studies that you can put on there, maybe screenshotting some reviews that you can put onto a picture as well. And then the last one is the Praise. So getting those reviews and getting that review velocity being built up and responding to those on a week-by-week basis. Having that full infinite loop going round and round is that consistency and recency. And Mike, it's an absolute pleasure that we've been... We're able now to improve your GBP Loop framework. [Laughter] I want to say anyone that wants to do it himself, go out to GBPly.net. It's an amazing tool. It's one of the tools that we're using to do all the management systems and processes. Peter, also known as the king of local lead generation, he's using it for all of his clients and businesses. I'm using it myself in all the rank and rents and obviously we've drafted in Paul as well, the king of Google Maps, who's an absolute legend when it comes to fine-tuning all the semantics of what's needed on those posts. Guys, it's been an absolute pleasure and we hope you like the episode about the GBP Loop framework for Google Business Profiles.
