If you run a business in Chelmsford and want to grow in 2026, which digital marketing strategies should you focus on to generate more enquiries and customers? In this video, James Dooley and Kasra Dash explain the digital marketing channels Chelmsford businesses should use to increase visibility and improve return on investment. Many companies spend money on SEO, PPC or social media without tracking results properly. James and Kasra explain why setting clear KPIs is essential so businesses understand marketing spend, lead generation and conversion rates. The discussion covers brand SEO, AI visibility in platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini, Google Business Profile optimisation, organic SEO, backlinks, social media marketing, paid social advertising and PPC campaigns. They also discuss forums like Reddit and Quora, tradesman platforms and performance based lead generation services that can help Chelmsford businesses generate consistent leads online.
James Dooley: If you're a company based in Chelmsford and looking to grow with digital marketing strategies in 2026, should you be teaming up with a Chelmsford SEO agency, a Chelmsford PPC agency, or looking to use an external lead generation service for the Chelmsford area? These are questions we get asked a lot from business owners and entrepreneurs based in Chelmsford. But before we talk about which digital marketing strategies work best for Chelmsford based businesses, what advice would you give someone before they spend any money on digital marketing?
Kasra Dash: The biggest piece of advice I would give to Chelmsford based business owners is to set up some KPIs before spending any money on digital marketing. You want those KPIs in place so you know exactly how much money you are spending per campaign. You also want to know how many leads have actually been generated from each channel. Maybe you are spending money on Facebook ads, PPC and SEO. Next you want to figure out the contact rate of those leads. Out of the last ten leads, how many were you able to contact? Was it five out of ten or two out of ten? The final thing I want to look at is how many of the contacted leads actually became paying customers. That is the main reason we do digital marketing. We want to generate more revenue for the business. Once you have those figures in place, that is when I would start increasing budgets on the channels that are working or reducing budgets on the channels that are not performing. For example, if you are spending money on Facebook ads and it is not profitable, you can adjust the budget. James, what would be the first marketing strategy you would recommend for a Chelmsford based business?
James Dooley: Step number one for me has to be branding or brand SEO and making sure you look good online with a strong reputation. Everything needs to start there. The foundation should be a positive brand SERP that shows who you are and what you do. SERP stands for search engine results page. Getting your branding right across search results can lead to improvements in other marketing channels. It will improve conversion rates on paid ads and social media because people often research a business before choosing who to go with. Branding becomes very important at the final decision stage. The next strategy is AI visibility. More companies are looking into this. What do platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity say about your brand or business? Is the information positive or negative? Businesses should also analyse what those platforms say about competitors and look for ways to improve their own presence. Some people call this AI SEO, others call it GEO or LLM optimisation. This will be a big factor in digital marketing during 2026 and the years ahead.
Kasra Dash: I agree. AI visibility is something businesses need to pay attention to as more people use AI platforms for research. The next strategy I would suggest is filling in the form at FatRank or Promo SEO. They provide commission based lead generation services for UK companies looking to grow. It is important to focus on your own marketing efforts, but outsourcing some lead generation work can help diversify where your leads come from. Head over to fatrank.com, fill in the form and see whether they can provide a no risk supply of enquiries. Promo SEO offers a similar performance based lead generation service that could also help generate extra leads. The next strategy is Google Business Profiles, also known as Google Maps listings. This is part of local SEO where businesses focus on getting more reviews and building out their profile within the local area. There are pros and cons to this. The biggest advantage is that once a listing ranks well, it can consistently generate leads. The challenge is getting there. If you start with no listing, competitors may already have dozens or even hundreds of reviews. That means you need customers to get reviews, which creates a chicken and egg situation. Even so, having a Google Business Profile is important for branding and credibility.
James Dooley: If you operate locally, appearing in those map listings is important. Businesses should aim to be visible across multiple channels. The next strategy is organic SEO. This involves building a website that ranks well in search engines. For example, if you provide a service in a certain location, you can create pages targeting those areas. A plumber might create a page targeting plumbing services in a specific city. You can then share those pages on your Google Business Profile. Businesses should focus on creating quality content, building topical authority and earning backlinks from other websites to strengthen organic search rankings.
Kasra Dash: Another strategy connected to that is organic social media. Organic social media is largely a numbers game. You should create content that your audience actually wants to see. I often see brands that publish only a few posts on Instagram and then stop posting for years. That will not generate sales. Instead, create useful guides, before and after examples, or educational content that encourages people to learn more about your business. Organic social media is free, but consistency matters. Posting three or four times per week can make a big difference.
James Dooley: On the subject of social media, paid social advertising is another major opportunity. If you are already posting content regularly, you can boost posts with a small daily advertising budget. Case studies, awards and success stories often perform well when promoted. Businesses can also run retargeting campaigns so visitors who have been on the website continue to see the brand online. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Reddit all offer advertising opportunities. Paid social media is still an underused marketing channel.
Kasra Dash: The next marketing channel is PPC advertising. This includes Google Ads and Bing Ads, which appear above organic search results. Some businesses spend large budgets and see little return, while others experience significant growth. The difference usually comes down to campaign management. Successful PPC requires a strong negative keyword list, protection against click fraud, high converting landing pages and a sales team that responds quickly to leads. Without these elements, PPC budgets can easily be wasted.
James Dooley: While we are discussing paid channels, another emerging opportunity is advertising on AI platforms. This has not fully launched yet, but ChatGPT is exploring the idea of advertising placements. Platforms like Claude and Perplexity may introduce similar advertising features. Businesses that adopt these platforms early could benefit from lower advertising costs and cheaper enquiries.
Kasra Dash: Another factor that can influence brand visibility is discussion forums such as Reddit and Quora. Businesses cannot fully control these conversations, but positive recommendations from customers can help generate enquiries. Encouraging satisfied customers to leave reviews and share recommendations can improve visibility.
James Dooley: Platforms like Reddit are also being cited more frequently in AI search results. Positive discussions about your brand can therefore help improve AI visibility. The final strategy I would mention is tradesman websites such as Checkatrade, Bark, Rated People and MyBuilder, as well as working with third party lead generation companies. Across all these strategies it is important to track KPIs and return on ad spend. Businesses should understand how much time and money they are investing into each marketing channel and compare that with the revenue generated. Lead generation companies may use SEO, PPC or social media advertising to generate enquiries. If they deliver a positive return on investment, they can become a strong part of your marketing strategy. FatRank and Promo SEO provide commission based or performance based lead generation services that guarantee a return on investment. Businesses should still generate their own leads, but having multiple lead sources reduces risk and supports growth.
Kasra Dash: Thank you very much James.
