What Does “The DEO Proof Stack: It's Pointless Getting an Interview If You're Not the One Hired (James Dooley Interviews Kasra Dash)” Talk About?
This episode of the Fatrank Podcast introduces the DEO Proof Stack, a framework designed to help businesses move beyond simply being cited in AI search results to actually being recommended and chosen. Host James Dooley interviews Kasra Dash around a central analogy: appearing in AI results is like being interviewed for a job, but the real goal is to be the one that gets hired. They stress that there is a crucial difference between citation and recommendation, and that chasing citations alone is essentially pursuing a vanity metric.
“There's a big difference between being cited and being recommended. You don't want to keep turning up for interviews. You want to be the one that's being chosen to be hired.”
— James Dooley

What Are the Key Takeaways From “The DEO Proof Stack: It's Pointless Getting an Interview If You're Not the One Hired (James Dooley Interviews Kasra Dash)”?
Here are the key points discussed in this episode:
- Being cited in AI search is not the same as being recommended, and businesses should aim to be the one that gets chosen.
- AI citations can be inconsistent and are often influenced by browser history and caching, making them an unreliable vanity metric.
- The DEO Proof Stack recommends building specific pages including a costs page, reviews page, case study page, testimonials page, accreditations page, awards page and a brand SSOT page.
- Most businesses are not creating all of these pages, which creates a competitive opportunity to be recommended.
- These framework pages are designed to work well with LLMs like Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews.
“If you have all of those things, not only will you turn up to the interview, but there is a very good chance of you being hired as well, because not many people are actually doing all of those pages.”
— Kasra Dash

James Dooley: The DEO proof stack. I've got another great saying. There's been several. Make sure you check out some of the links in the description that will all be interlinked together. And this one says, "It's pointless being interviewed for a job, which is just being cited in AI. You want to be the one that gets hired." And the one that gets hired is the ones the AI is recommending. So, there's a big difference between being cited and being recommended. You don't want to keep turning up for interviews. You want to be the one that's being chosen to be hired. Today I'm joined with Kasra Dash. So Kasra, let's talk about how do you get hired more when you're turning up for these interviews? By applying the DEO proof stack.
Kasra Dash: So first of all, you probably want to wear, like, a really nice suit. [Laughter] [Clears throat] Um, no. So it, it, it comes down to a, a proven framework. I feel like so many people, because AI search is so new, um, not many people know the full ins and outs. Um, and you see it time and time again. I don't know if you've done any searches yourself, James, where certain brands get cited, but then you search it four or five hours later and it's not being cited at all. Um, or in certain cases, if you're the founder of that business, it gets cited for you because obviously you've got that bit of history and that caching inside your, your browser history, but for any of your friends and people that are actually searching you, it doesn't get cited. So, what I recommend to companies, um, is having a costs page, a clear costs page, having a reviews page, having a case study page, having a testimonials page, having an accreditations page, having an awards page, and a brand SSOT page. Um, if you have all of those things, not only will you turn up to the interview, but there is a very good chance of you being hired as well, because not many people are actually doing all of those pages.
James Dooley: Yeah, for sure. That résumé that you're turning up with, that CV that you're turning up with for that interview is going to be the one that's going to get you hired. That's the difference between AI citing you as just being one of several people versus actually recommending you, being the answer that they kind of, at the 11th hour, say yes, go with this brand or go with this contractor. There's a big, big difference and people need to understand this difference between stop chasing citations because it's a vanity metric and start chasing the DEO. At the 11th hour, you are the one that's being chosen, not just being cited. Stop turning up to interviews. Be the one that they're actually hiring. Big differences. Make certain you start looking into it. The DEO proof stack. If you want to know more information about it, check out the link in the description where me and Kasra go through for 15 minutes why each and every page that we've carefully crafted for this framework works really well for the LLMs like Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews. Very important for you to start getting cited within AI and building the business going forward.
